Let me tell you of a world,
A world from the Book of the Dead.
Across this world roams the Myst
Slithering, pining, moaning...
Waiting.
It waits for the "perfect" one,
The one whose brilliance will burn the misery away.
Yes, this is the world of Valmordia. The world of the Myst.
The Myst that inhabits this once-peaceful land. It rolls across the oceans, caps the snowy mountains, and darkens even the hottest desert. It's watching. Waiting. Few have lived to hear the cries that it gives, heard only in story and fable...
If anyone's earned member of the month, Airu has earned it more than three times over. The other contestants have then gone missing and been found floating in a river. We're still working on that one.
The point is, even if Airu wasn't the wonderful role-player she is, she'd still get this. Believe me, for clinging on and giving us the delights of Marana and Cyra, she's earned it :D
No character of the month D:
This thread was started by Airu, and was chosen for ToTM for two reasons. One: well... Do we have any other IC threads...? *Cough*. But number two is the real reason! Let's face it: Airu is win. And this thread was nominated purely for that reason :D

QUICK FACTS | PEOPLE | PLACES | PHRASES | Everything here is an incredibly useful slice of information to any Experiment. I will try to add everything on Fading Echoes here, but it's going to be a pretty long list. Each of the species, the monsters, the experiments, the history, the gods, the religions, the jobs... The list (believe me) goes on. For now, though, I'm just adding things as I go, so there's no guarantee that there will be everything you need here. I'm sure you know to use Ctrl+F if there's a specific detail you need to find.
It's recommended that you read the full article linked in each definition to get the full details, as this is really just a quick-ref.

| A | Adaptation Period - When an experiment's modification is almost completely healed, the scientists will want to test its limits, and to teach the experiment how they want the modification to be used.
Aiinah - The term for one of the three Shifter lords -or ladies. These incredibly powerful and skilled Shifters are the head of Shifter society, and it is they who expand upon the Shifter laws, punish those who infringe them, and are often representatives for their kind... Not that any sentient species has made an attempt at friendly contact yet. The aiinah is the head of the family who comes into power, and all must be exceptional at shifting and Observing.
Ahr - A Shifter child [androgynous term] who is eight to thirty-six months old.

| B | Berserkers - A type of Blooder, bred to kill other experiments. If you can't imagine this, picture a rooster fight. Got it? Now, replace the roosters with part human, part tiger, part bear, part Godzilla monsters. And make it the worstpart of each.
Blooders - A 'sub-species' of experiment. Once, they might have been human... Now, they're an unrecognisable mess of creatures... And yet on seeing one, you know that it will kill you if ordered. And your death will not be pleasant. Controlled by the scientists, most scientists keep one Blooder as their special 'pet'
| C | Chaos - In Xiaden religion, Chaos is a sort of all-enveloping god that surrounds our universe. From its various mothers and fathers, their gods were born, and created the world out of Chaos. It is foretold that Chaos will one day reclaim the earth, and the gods will build a new world for the pure of heart to live on.
Chimera - There are few Chimera that exist in this world, but not in your understanding of the word. No, a Chimera is an experiment [Lazy editor leaves for Echo to explain]

| E | Experiment - Any creature who has been subject to the scientist's... ventures. These poor souls (or soulless ones, as the case may be), are locked up and locked away. As far as the scientists know, there have been no escaped experiments. Only the ones they leave to die in the sewers.
| G | Galshhoek - A culture with fierce beliefs about respect, revenge, and ritual, Galshhoek is therefore the home of some of Atropia's most passionate and gifted. Scientists from here are crude, but persistent and highly willing to learn. Experiments are stronger than you might expect. The people are strong and hardy, but most are blonde or red haired and blue eyed, all of them friendly and willing, with a sturdy build and a welcoming atttitude.
Gho Zun - The Xiaden god of earth and patriotism, in all other respects Gho Zun is considered laid-back. He likes to lie in the sun, and his festivals are generally days of rest. He cheats on Mai Ling, his wife, on occasion, but he always tries to make it up to her; he's very casual about everything. Well, everything but the un-patriotic. His common forms are the panda and the golden lion tamarin.

| L | Lab-Rats - The crude name for a scientist's messenger. They run errands, deliver messages, or just generally work in the scientists' best interests outside of the lab. Maybe you could also call them 'public relations'; they attend the posh parties, dropping comments about how wonderful the scientists are, and spying on any rebellion as they go.
Lin - The name for a female Shifter adolescent, aged three to twenty years. Strange, isn't it?
Lithista - A little town, nestled into the mountain ranges of the south. It's an ancient little community, only recently having been rediscovered, and the joys of electricity, water purification, and other modern enhancements added. For all that, it keeps some 'quirky' traditions to heart, and is ever the community it was before discovery by Theranese explorers.

He appears about six years old, a small boy, but occasionally takes the form of a spider monkey. To see all the different threads of the future, he uses a palm-sized silver disc; the symbol of high religious status.

| O | Oshuma - A fine, flourishing continent. This was once one of the favoured tourist destinations, as it is the warmest landmass on Valmordia. Now, however, the Myst controls all that goes on. The only life in the cities are their robots: cleaning the streets, feeding the fish, and making dinner for a human master who will never be home again.

| R | Raleston - A small fishing town in the east of Atropia. The people here are notoriously guarded, but excellent fishers. They do not warm easily -this is apparent in their sneering, pinched faces- but grudgingly welcome any bounty hunters who come their way. They support no-one but their own.

| S | Seraphim - An experiment of the most pitiable kind, these creatures are little more than doodles for their scientists. Their scientists' focus is on how much of anything they can be given. So while they may have three heads, they will generally have no other modifications than extra heads.
Shinaa - The shinaa is a group of twelve Shifters, all very gifted, who guide the aiinah in their decisions. They are spies, in many ways. The title is fought for during the Imbaal, a fight in which neither competitor touches the other. It lies with the twelve shinae to make sure that everything is running smoothly, and that any minor complaints are seen to before the aiinah might be bothered about them.
Southern Plains - The common name for the south plains of Atropia.
Sun Ba - The Xiaden god of the past, Sun Ba is depicted as an old man dressed in silver-embroidered white. His white beard falls to his knees. He's thought of as just like an old man: pushy, patronising, and stubborn. Sun Ba is often heard grumbling over times gone by. In stories, people often trick him into changing the past.
Sunwe - 1) Late Spring to the end of summer; the warmest season of the year. 2) The ancient Galshhoek god of light and merriment.

| T | Theranse - The original name of Lockdown City. Disease runs rampant in the lower, outer quarter, but move into the middle district, and riches abound. Climb further still, and the gold-plated spire of the Laboratory's highest tower looms into view, mocking the sick and dying for what they can never have. The Laboratory is the richest district of Theranse, and is situated on a hilly ridge. Beneath the ridge are the sewers...

| W | Wei Ba - The shy, gentle Xiaden goddess of the present. She generally keeps out of everyone's way, and will let anyone watch to see what is going on in her mirror. It only shows what is happening in the present, but it can show what happens anywhere... Apart from what the elemental gods are up to. She generally appears as a geisha-like girl.
Wishnag - Every twelve lunar months, a Wishnag is held. This is a huge celebration for Shifters, and they take great pleasure in showing off their skills. It's a huge celebration for the Shifters, and they enjoy this sharp deviation from the solitary norm.
