EXPERIMENT FILE:
Josephine Mae Taylor
Josephine Mae Taylor

BASIC NOTES:
NAME: Josephine Mae Taylor
AGE: Twenty-one, technically she’s only five by virtue of her birthday (February 29)
GENDER: Female
SPECIES: Human
SEXUALITY: Bisexual
INFECTED? No
ORIGINS: [-will wait and ask questions-]
PARENTAGE: James Taylor & Marion Taylor, both deceased to her knowledge.
APPEARANCE:
HEIGHT: Five foot three inches
WEIGHT: One-hundred and forty pounds (80:20 muscle to fat ratio)
EYE COLOUR: Blue-hazel
HAIR COLOUR: Naturally blonde however she manages to keep up with dying her hair bitch black.
LENGTH: Just past her shoulders, cut in feathered layers
SKIN TONE: Pale and faintly freckled.
FULL DESCRIPTION: Like a child she avoids reality rather well- she builds her own, including her own appearance. Her body is slim, built majority of muscle (80:20 ratio of muscle to fat). Her hair is dyed black (cut just past shoulder length in messy layers) though her eyebrows remain the natural dark blonde that she was born with. Blue-hazel eyes, commonly lined in kohl however more recently lacking the familiar edging due to a lack of caring and a high amount of stress associated with the 'Mist', offer a sharp, highly emotional characteristic to her face- she is very good at casting expressions. She sports snakebites and a Monroe piercing (right side).
Generally she wears what is available to her, she likes to keep her clothing relatively clean and manages this by means that nobody is quite certain of (considering her highly hectic lifestyle and 'on-the-move' lifestyle). Beneath the clothing are a multitude of random scars, those on her legs, self inflicted, obviously, those on her knees and elbows, scrapes form childhood, those on her arms, the intricate design on her ribcage just under her left breast, the fading black of a scratcher’s tattoo that looks something like the word ‘FeED’ on her left hip and it’s mate on the right hip reading “Transpi” before becoming too faded to be recognized. All scarring seems relatively light, save the fresher marks of her chewing her cuticles, general wear and tear, and caring for some odd animal or project.
PERSONALITY:
Let’s start from basics:
Josephine is the daughter of two alcoholics.
She has inherited their propensity for highly addictive behaviors.
Josephine’s father, aside from being alcoholic, was abused as a child. He brought that same abuse into his own house when Josephine hit her tweens, basically.
This hobbled Josephine’s abilities to properly form relationships.
A lack of bonding with her father and a hiccup in her relationship with mommy dearest has made her fairly self destructive, violent, confused, and immature.
Despite having mended ways with either parent she is still horribly afflicted by these inabilities.
She holds loyalty insanely dear for herself and others and pretty much will use any means necessary to remain far from the confines of a cage or authorities’ fist. This falters only in the face of impending harm that might come against an innocent (such as an animal or a child, rarely an adult or teenager). This insane gearing also keeps her from realizing her dreams when to complete them might cause another emotional or physical distress (despite her poor self-esteem she is fairly high-minded and egotistical, believing that she can achieve anything she so pleases).
She hates seeing things she’s completed fall apart and will form an odd sort of ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ if something she’s worked on turns out to be bad for her or others. In which case she takes a very obvious stance of responsibility, one a person would not expect to see in her, to the point of holding herself hostage with the idea that it could harm another person if she doesn’t keep it in check. This develops into a twisted loyalty and determination to the point she will refuse help and even act in aggression toward outside forces that attempt to remedy the situation, often leading to rash, terrible decisions that lead to more harm that good.
Mind-numbing determination surfaces along with a sharp tongue, aggressive wit, and a slightly immature humor makes her a candidate for being called a retard, however she’s far from mentally challenged, but rather hosts a higher than average IQ and knows perfectly well how to use it to get her way. This IQ, however, makes her extremely impatient with ignorance and children and makes her fairly aloof at times, using the reasoning that ‘If she’s smarter than them, she should have to stoop down for them’.
Her determination becomes irritating when she refuses to admit she cares for another person and continues to tinker in their life. An odd maternal complex keeps her from totally hating humanity but her queer in ability to admit caring keeps her from properly being utilized as a power of good in peoples lives most of the time. This is the only example of an extremely sensitive kid with a whole list of rioting emotions that becomes very shy. Aloof and inattentive if a characters shows some body language example of displeasure with her meddling. Another fantastic feature is her inability to tie herself to a relationship for long- if one shows they are 'better ff without her' by any means she will become extremely introverted and shy of them, initiating the estrangement rather than having the estrangement initiated on her.LIKES:
Tattoos: She is a total freak for the culture surrounding tattoos but has yet to get one (a real one, at least) due to an extreme fear of being yelled at for her 'scratcher' tattoos. She at one time (and still does secretly) wish to become a tattoo artist.
Animals: Any type of animal attracts her, she is highly affectionate with cats and kittens and will randomly adopt a stray, raise it by her own means, and become very attached. Almost to the point she can't let said animal go.
Biology: She could have been a scientist- she is extremely bright on matters of biology and the general basics of how to complete some of the more well known experiments.
Travel: One of the most obvious reasons why she is NOT a scientist is her love of travel- it's the best way to experience new things, to learn things that otherwise would not come to mind, and the like.
Psychology: An extremely influential part of her life and outlook. The sad thing is that through her knowledge on this subject she knows exactly what is wrong with her but she refuses to do anything about it.
The Mist: No matter how vile and evil it is... She is intrigued. She never lets this fascination show outwardly but secretly she wishes that she could some how communicate with the Myst, or at least studying closely.
DISLIKES:
Ignorance: In any form, that of a child or an adult it is a terrible crime to her. The ignorance of a child is more forgivable than that of an adult.
Yelling: Actually it terrifies her- shouting and yelling makes her want to curl up in a ball or yell right back. She'll often start crying if she's yelled at.
Death, Blood, and Gore: Despite being highly intelligent and keen on subjects that make a scientist she cannot stand any of these three nor the tinkering of life. Despite a lack of religious faith she is so deeply rooted against these things that the sight of any of these things will make her sick to her stomach. Amazingly the sight of her own blood does nothing to her psyche. (Screaming or sounds of agony freak her out as well however make her morbidly curious in a fashion)
The Dark: Perhaps no where near as dangerous as the Mist but somehow more important and frightening is the dark and shadows- Josie specifically avoids large shadowy areas, darkness, and the like.
Children: May not earn an outward dislike however Josie is distinctly impatient with children.
STRENGTHS:
- She is not afraid of the Mist- she can think outside of "It's evil and must be killed" to attempt reasoning psychology- this of course is never put into play.
- Brilliant- she has a very high IQ which makes her formidably witty and keen on much of life, including biology and sciences concerning the soul.
- High artistic ability- She is actually pretty damn good, carrying around a pocket sized leather bound sketchbook with watercolor paper, ball point pens, fine tip drafting pens, and a small pallet of the basic watercolors (in dry tab form) on her travels.
- Capable of utilizing her surroundings to the best of her abilities- Josie's dad taught her camping and fishing when she was young- she's not the best at it but she's capable of taking care of herself in a fashion.
- Determination- She can achieve basically any goal she sets herself out to overtake.
WEAKNESSES:
- Highly Emotional- She is actually a lot more sensitive than she lets on and often bottles up very strong emotions until she's suffered enough to find an outlet (Hence her past though no longer practiced cutting)
- Self-Destructive- If she finds a solution to a problem that involves her own pain she is more likely to choose said answer though not quite so straight forward as that- she reasons herself into things like that.
- Fear- She claims to be indomitable and unafraid however she has many fears which are particularly critical and crippling.
- Anger- Josie is easy to irritate and takes a while to cool down. She's not good at hiding her anger. She may be described as petty when she lets her anger rule her actions.
- Lazy- It's true- she'd rather sleep all day than get up and move on from her chosen bedding place.
- Constant Travel- Her backpack and her are pretty much inseparable- she refuses to settle down just yet which is dangerous in and of itself.
- Daydreamer- She lingers on the past, the what ifs, and the possible futures far too much and gets drawn head first into events without even realizing it.
- Addictive behaviour- she attracts people who can be nothing but bad for her and gladly associates with them. Call it fate's magnet.
FEARS:
- Yelling
- Bluffed hits
- Others coming to serious harm
- Blood, Gore, and general agony
- The dark
AMBITIONS To survive (She aimed to become a tattoo artist)
HISTORY:
NAME: Josephine Mae Taylor
PARENTS: James and Marion Taylor
SIBLINGS: Nil
KNOWN HISTORY: Josephine was born in relative peace. Her father and mother, never married were quick to split. At two Josephine came under the sole guardianship of her father who shortly became aggressive and abusive by her eleventh year of life.
Josephine grew up under the care of a nurse who eventually was kicked out by her father for stealing money, precious, precious money. Josie was bounced around between her mother and father's houses after that on a 'daycare' system, then off to school during the week for 'learning' which actually was a great deal more of emotional hardening.
Josephine became a fighter, a damn vicious one at that. She was considered dangerous and came under more criticism from her father. Her self hate escalated until she found an outlet, becoming smooth and calm and painfully unkempt- she took the appearance of a transient, baggy jeans and jackets hid her arms and legs. At least her father wouldn't think her crazy.
Because that's just it... Josie was not crazy.
...
She just wasn't, she couldn't be!
Time ticked by slowly. As soon as the big 'one-eight' struck she up and vanished, keeping as good a contact with her mom as she could. At first she came home every month or so, crashed at her mother's door step... But she became more and more feral in a sense, less and less domestic to her mother's caring hand.
She eventually disappeared all together after her birthday- number twenty. Mommy and daddy haven't seen hide nor hair of the little bitch since.
She likes it that way.
FULL HISTORY: One reason for her father's brutality seems to be a coping mechanism. Not only was he abused but it seemed a fine way to distance himself from her. When Josie still showed signs of being complacent and effectively 'innocent' as a child (her extreme fear of damage to other beings and blood made her a charming choice) was around the time he split from her mother.
James was bribed and eventually sold a contract on his daughter's soul- literally. Much needed money entered his pocket, Josie nearly left his house but his desperate pleadings as a father showed some strange promise- the scientist let her stick around. This event of meeting the scientist, though she doesn't quite remember it, set in motion her adoration of science in a way- the men looked so nice and clean, so upstanding to her... As a child they must have been gods.
James became aware that Josephine would leave his care soon and so decided to spoil her subconsciously. He took time out of his day when he normally wouldn't have to pick on her, to break her heart. She grew bitter.
The scientists visited and found that her first fight had been a doozy- not only had she lost but she'd taked a fair amount of the competitor as well- she acted far more animalistic when faced with dangers than most kids her age, having used her teeth and jaws to scrape a chunck in the boy's shoulder. She was ruined. Furious they promised James Hell for ruining their subject and gradually pressured him into a corner. He lost his job, his income, his family.
Somewhere along the way he forgot this was his fault and so when Josie disappeared for good and the 'curse' of science lifted he rejoiced and drank himself to death that night with the sudden present of booze and money on his doorstep. Vaguely she might remember a scene of total distress, but trauma locked away the act. Josephine played witness to her father's decay, stepping in to say goodbye before leaving to find further scraps of land to rest her head.
What greeted her was a bare grin and the reek of whiskey and rot. Josephine shortly abandoned the corpse, seemingly in a daze and has never looked back, figuratively or literally.
-
Her attraction to the Myst can be blamed on the scientists as well who at a young age instructed her it was a 'good' thing and that it would one day be her friend. This ended after the age of four when she began actively recalling events of her history with no problem. These effects still linger though Josie is 'useless' other than her ability to be a flesh golem if properly baited into the Mist, so they think.
