Welcome to a world held in thrall by an old betrayal, where anything inexplicable is undoubtedly witchcraft, and grounds for trial and execution are as thin as the trust between neighbours. Centuries ago, when the Priorhood world government tampered with the Shalevines and inadvertently drained the known world of life energy, they lied to the people to cover their mistake and avoid complete anarchy. They blamed the abominations that were being born out of the imbalance in the Shalevines, calling them Ghouls and declaring them evil and infectious, when in fact the Ghouls were the planet's antibody to human fiddling.
The monotheistic world state grew in power as the tribes prostrated themselves at the gates of Sanctum and begged for salvation from the evil infection. But it was not to be. Power shifted within the Priorhood, and the reigning Bishops weren't in a terrible hurry to give up their stranglehold on the planet's energy. They just kept killing Ghouls and "Heretics" to give their people an illusion of progress.
This climate of terror and draconic rule continues today. Join us in exploring the meaning of human fear and frailty as we subject our cast to trial upon mind-bending tribulation, hacking away to reveal the monsters within them. See how easily we give up our rights and freedoms when confronted with the unknown, and see how desperate and broken we become when we realize the error of our ways...
Be a High Geometrist, working the Shalevines and harvesting energy for the Priorhood. Be a Shouter, fervently and unwittingly proclaiming the Priorhood's agenda in the form of zealous sermons and ardent blessings. Be a Paladin, an Orion, or a Footsoldier in the Priorhood army, wiping out "infected" villages and hunting down rebel tribes. Be a poor and ignorant villager, maddened with fear and believing every folk tale told in every den, clawing at the gates of the nearest War Cathedral and begging for mercy. Be a Heretic, rejecting the Priorhood's rule and seeking contact with Ghouls. Be a noble, secure within the walls of an "uninfected" War Cathedral, and enjoying the luxuries of the upper class. Be a Ghoul, filled with magic and purpose, born to right the imbalance.
Or be something we have yet to think of! We're open! The pen is in your hand, and we not only allow, but we expect our members to create new niches and systems within the Areeth setting. We are looking for dedicated writers of any level of experience. We're here for some storytelling fun, so newbs to Pulitzer prize winners are welcome. As long as you're around and you make an effort, we promise you a rewarding fantasy experience with friendly people and no drama.
